Paiement has since returned to Dallas to conduct performances of Tod Machover’s Death and the Powers, as well as the critically acclaimed and highly anticipated world premiere of Joby Talbot’s opera Everest, Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw and Douglas Cuomo’s Arjuna’s Dilemma. Subsequently, Paiement was appointed Principal Guest Conductor at The Dallas Opera.
Maestro Paiement’s 2012 Dallas Opera debut conducting Peter Maxwell Davies’ 1979 thriller, The Lighthouse earned rave reviews. Her numerous recordings include many world premiere works. The event is curated by stage director and current San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow Aria Umezawa and will feature performances by other Adler Fellows. On Thursday, March 23rd, the Opera Lab is hosting their first pop-up outside of San Francisco at the Uptown Nightclub on Broadway. This month's venue, a nightclub in Uptown Oakland, is not exactly where you would expect opera to be belted out on stage. Launched last spring, SF Opera Lab strives to bring operatic music and performances outside of the War Memorial Opera House and into small, unusual spaces around the Bay Area. Get ready for an evening of interactive operatic mischief.
